Admissions

Yaletown House is part of the B.C. Ministry of Health's Care Division and contracts Complex Care Services with the Vancouver Coast Health (VCH). Our mandate is to provide a caring home and health care services to individuals who can no longer live independently and require 24 hour professionally supported residential living..

Under the Guidelines of the VCH, Yaletown House is licensed to provide residential services to clients (residents) who require Complex Care at Level 3.

Basic Criteria for Residence

A person interested in applying to Residential Care may be eligible if they meet the following criteria:

  • Have complex medical care needs that require professional intervention
  • Have been assessed as needing daily assistance and support beyond what community resources can provide to ensure safety at home
  • Need residential care immediately
  • Nineteen years of age or older.

Steps for applying for Residential Care

  1. Call your Community Health Centre (numbers listed below) and ask to speak with a case manager.
  2. The case manager will assess you (or your family member) for eligibility into residential care.
  3. You should visit at least three care facilities for tours (date and time listed below) that you may be interested in as possible homes. Please note that under VCH guidelines, clients will be offered the first available and appropriate bed in your area. You may however, be eligible to apply for a transfer to another facility of your choice after admission.

The Role of Social Work Services at Yaletown House

Resident and Family Services are integral to the development of the Yaletown House community, as each resident is assessed independently and their unique needs are recognized and valued. Throughout the pre-admission process, admission, residency, and discharge phases, the Manager of Social Work is available for assessment, information, consultation, and assistance with social, emotional or financial problems or concerns.

Wait List

Waitlist for residential care facilities is maintained by the VCH. Unfortunately, we are not able to advise you if you will be assigned to Yaletown House or where you are placed on the general waitlist. Please contact your case manager at Vancouver Coastal Health.

Tours

To assist individuals interested in finding out more about Yaletown House, we offer weekly tours the first and third Wednesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. (please call the Receptionist at 604.689.0022 local 300 for dates). We offer an online version of the tour.

Fees/Rent

Each resident who lives at Yaletown House pays a user fee or daily rate based on his or her previous year's income tax return. Your VCH case manager can explain this process to you.
