I would like to share with you some good news. On behalf of myself and the Board of Directors I am delighted to announce that Yaletown House received 100% on our 2017 VCHA Residential Care licensing audit. This is the 7th year in a row we have received 100% compliance. This did not happen because of one person - it happened because of all of our staff working and supporting each other. I would like to thank and acknowledge all staff: front line, contract and management and contract who are the hands and hearts that support each resident everyday and provide them with the care they deserve – the best care we can provide. This is a job well done!
Also in the good news category, I am pleased to report that the building construction project is moving forward well. We are currently into our 12th stack of rooms, representing 68% completion. The anticipated end date for the construction work is set for early 2018. Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding during the past 2 years. We are getting there!
In addiiton, we are pleased to announce that work will begin shortly on redeveloping the roof top garden. If all goes as planned this year, we will be enjoying some Summer garden programs and social time soon in our beautiful new space.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the Leadership Team.
Mark your calendars for Saturday June 24, 2017 (NEW DATE)

Resident Income Tax Filing
We issued 2016 tax receipts for "full time care in a nursing home" for all residents in late January. These were mailed to the person our records show as financially responsible. It is very important that residents file an income tax return. If no tax return is filed for 2016, the Ministry of Health Services will automatically set a resident's 2018 rent rate at the maximum. Contact Ana at reception at 604 689-0022 if you need to request a receipt for past years.
BC Seniors Advocate Resident & Family Survey UPDATE
The survey has been completed, We will share the results with residents and families once we receive them.
photo consent FORM
Funding announcement from bc government for seniors care
Please help us to completed our photo content forms
Through our many programs and events, we enjoy taking photographs and video of resident participation. We like to share these photographs and videos in house through posters around the facility or on our TV kiosk in the reception area. We also like to promote and share stories about Yaletown House with our community through our Family and Friend Enews and on our web site. In the past each image shared required prior consent before using. This process was very labour intensive for our team. As part of our admission process, we now ask new residents and/or their family member to sign a form authorizing us to publish the images taken during Yaletown House organized and approved programs. As an existing member of our community we are asking you to sign the same consent form to help us streamline our image sharing. Any image we wish to publish will be
approved by a member of the Yaletown House Leadership Team for appropriateness before using. If the participant’s name appears, we will only include their first name. If a last name is required, we would ask for separate permission.
Ana at reception has copies of the form and we would greatly appreciate your assistance if your family member at Yaletown House is unable to sign. Ana can also email you a copy if that is more convenient. firstname.lastname@example.org or 604 689-0022, local 300.
Province is investing $500 million over the next 4 years
The Province recently announced that it is investing $500 million phased in over the next four years as part of a Ministry of Health action plan to improve care for seniors across the system, including increasing direct care hours for seniors in residential care. We are encouraged by this announcement however Yaletown House is not aware yet how this additional funding will impact our facility's budget and direct care hours. As the Leadership Team works through the details of the plan, we will share with you what steps will be introduce to enhance our services.
