About the Foundation

The Yaletown House Foundation is a registered charity that raises funds for the seniors who live at Yaletown House. The Foundation's mission is make the lives of our seniors citizens better by providing additional funds for programs, equipment and building renovations. Through our fundraising initiative and thanks to generous donors, we are supporting our residents' current needs and providing opportunities for growth and improved quality of life.

Charity Number 89249-4444RR0001

We have several projects underway for 2015/16 that need one time and ongoing fundraising support.

We offer excellence in therapeutic services, specifically music, art, horticulture therapies and spiritual care and are fortunate to have therapists trained in these specific areas providing programming. The power of music is a vital medium to engage residents and encourage dialogue in a supportive environment. Art can recall memories and helps residents discover a hidden talent. Horticulture allows for socialization and sharing of past gardening experience. Our non-denominational spiritual care encourages residents and families to find hope, peace and comfort during difficult times. Together these vital therapeutic services benefit our seniors greatly. .

*These programs are partially funding thanks to Provincial Gaming revenue.

Bike Program

The Duet Bike is a modified tandem style bicycle specifically designed for taking seniors or individuals with mobility limitations outside on rides. Thanks to generous donors, Yaletown House is fortunate to have two Duet Bikes as well as a team of volunteers who take our residents into the community on regular bike outings. As with any bicycle, the Duet Bike requires regular maintenance to keep the program running safely.

Speciality Matttresses and Electric Beds

We are currently replacing all of our outdated beds with specialized pressure reducing mattresses and electric beds and with integrated exit alarm system for seniors who are prone to falls. Together the mattress and bed units will enhance the safety and comfort for our seniors and provide long lasting durability for our complex care population.

Residents, Families and Friends

Yaletown House is fortunate to receive regular support from many family members who want to contribute to our ongoing successes. Gifts are welcomed at any financial level or frequency (monthly, annually, one time). Every dollar counts and we are grateful for our community of residents, families and friends who generously give to the Foundation.

We appreciate everyone's contributions towards our fundraising success and highlight many of our valuable donors in the quarterly Foundation Newsletter. As well, the Newsletter spotlights dedicated and amazing volunteers and updates our community about our fundraising progress.

Foundations, Corporations and Service Clubs

Thanks to support from such prominent organizations as the: Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Woodward's Foundation, the Yaletown Lion Club, and the RBC (to name only a few) Yaletown House has continued to provide excellence in seniors care. These contributions have helped us purchase a new wheelchair bus, bathing tubs, renovated and refurnished the facility, create a therapeutic garden, fund staff education, and purchase resident lifts. We are grateful that so many Foundations, Corporations and Service Clubs across Canada have been tremendously generous over the past decade.

Memorial or Honorarium Gifts

Gifts to the Foundation that honor a friend or family member are a thoughtful long-term expression of recognition and tribute to our resident's life. When Memorial donations are made, the resident's name is added to our Donor Memorial Area, as well thank you cards are sent to the appropriate individuals.
